TURKEY'S EXPORT COMPETITIVENESS
(COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS)

This application aims to provide an investigation of the export competitiveness of the Turkish economy at 2-digit or 3-digit Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) commodity category or at the industry level. For the years 1995-2008, various indices are used to explore how export performance of Turkey compares to those countries that are in the periphery of European Union (Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Russia, Syria, Tunisia, Ukraine); to China that emerged in international trade as a strong competitor and to countries that are in her periphery (India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand); to European Union members as well as candidates with population exceeding 4 million; and to the remaining OECD countries (Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, USA).

This application also comprises various import indices of the preceding countries for the period of concern. Furthermore, indices are given not only for industries, but also for either 2- or 3-digit SITC commodity categories. For example;

Industry: Machinery
2-digit SITC commodity category: 71 - Power-generating machinery and equipment
3-digit SITC commodity category: 711 - Steam generating boilers, etc.
712 - Steam turbines
713 - Internal combustion and piston engines
